The role of public relations in campaign practices is very important because the public perception of a new club or event can heavily impact the success of the group. I have learned a lot of valuable skills and lessons during my PR campaign experience. Skills such as time management, budgeting, and research were all important factors that went into making the campaign a success. During the campaign, I learned many new skills and plan to utilize those skills in future campaign projects.
One thing I learned during the campaign process was the importance of being able to work with your team. There are certain roles and tasks that have to be assigned so it is important to understand each member's strengths and weaknesses to better assign each role. I very much enjoyed working with my team members and getting to know them along the way. When I work on future campaigns, I also want to get to know my team because I feel like it's easier to collaborate with people you are used to interacting with. Having an effective team is important because you want to be able to communicate ideas and strategies with your team in order to create a campaign that is cohesive and flows well. Something I enjoyed about the campaign was making mock posters and planning the event. I utilized my creative skills to create a poster outline the client could use to advertise the event. I also enjoyed working with my team to create survey and interview questions. I had fun analyzing the results of the data to help come up with a plan on moving forward.
An important challenge I faced during the campaign was leadership. There were times during the campaign where some of the members were not completing their assigned tasks on time. Instead of taking a lead and reminding the others of the deadlines, I stayed quiet. I was afraid the other members might view me as bossy if I had said something. I now realize I should have been direct and maybe even sent out due date reminders to my teammates. I think the hardest part of the campaign for me personally was the budget and timeline. It's hard to say what is enough time to do or buy a certain thing considering you don't know the members schedules. However, I did my best to create an estimate of a timeline and schedule that would give the clients a proper amount of time to gather materials.
Overall, I have learned many valuable skills and have faced new challenges during the campaign. There were many challenges that I faced during the campaign. However, these challenges will help me grow and improve on my next campaign experience. Unfortunately I was not able to present to the client due to a trip to the hospital but I am confident my team did a good job presenting. All in all, I would consider my first campaign venture a success and am excited to work on more campaigns in the future.
